Agilitas Advisory: proud to advise Kanata Clean Power on a new $15B, 12 Mtpa LNG project

By Bilal Kahn / 16th June 2026 / News / 2 min read.

New $15B, 12 Mtpa FLNG project announced. Agilitas Advisory is delighted to report that Kanata Clean Power & Climate Technologies Corp. (“Kanata”) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Hanwha Ocean Co., Ltd (“Hanwha Ocean”) for its proposed floating LNG facility at Prince Rupert, British Columbia. The agreement was confirmed in the companies’ joint announcement on 16 June 2026.

Kanata is a key client of Agilitas Advisory. As project advisor, we look forward to working with Kanata and Hanwha Ocean to progress the development — and to advancing this nation-building initiative.

What the partnership covers

Under the MOU, Kanata and Hanwha Ocean intend to explore cooperation across five areas:

  • Engineering and construction of the floating LNG production and related facilities
  • Operations and maintenance services across the facilities’ operating life
  • Strategic equity participation by Hanwha Ocean or affiliated entities
  • Long-term LNG purchase (offtake) arrangements
  • Midstream solutions, including LNG carriers

A nation-building project

What sets Kanata apart is how it is being built. Kanata partners with First Nations to unlock the value of Canada’s natural gas, and has offered participating First Nations the opportunity to acquire up to a 50 percent ownership interest in the project. This is economic reconciliation in practice — Indigenous communities as owners, not bystanders, in a nationally significant asset. That is what makes this a nation-building initiative, not simply an infrastructure deal.

Our role, and what’s next

Agilitas Advisory is proud to partner with and advise Kanata Clean Power as it advances Kanata LNG, and we look forward to working with Hanwha Ocean as the project develops. Moving first is how advantage is won — and Kanata is moving first.

Congratulations to all those involved, and thank you for the hard work in getting to this stage of development.

The Memorandum of Understanding is non-binding and represents an early step. Significant work on engineering, environmental assessment, Indigenous engagement and regulatory approval lies ahead before any final investment decision.
